A Synopsis of History:

During the presentation of the Railway Budget for 2005–06, the Minister of Railways made the historic announcement of the establishment of DFCs on the floor of the House in Parliament. The Project was considered at the Japan-India Summit Meeting in April 2005. The Hon’ble Prime Ministers of India and Japan signed a statement of cooperation that includes funds for a feasibility study and potential Japanese government investment for the dedicated rail freight lanes. In October 2007, the feasibility study report was delivered to the Ministry of Railways. The Ministry of Railways took steps to create a Special Purpose Vehicle in the interim to build, run, and maintain the designated freight lines.
